Mr. Lloyd George's Programme Mr. Lloyd George's " Council of
Action for Peace and 'Reconstruction " has .issued two. booklets this week. The first, dealing with the peace problem, is strongly pro- League of Nations in its policy, and urges that the Govern.. naent should propose a five-years'-arinaments truce and non-aggression pact and invite other countries to co- operate in plans for economic peace. Most of these pro- posals are-intrinsically sound,, but to call for new pledges of nonraggression only throws doubt on the validity of existing pledges. .The.. reconstruction programme is that with which Mr. Lloyd George has already made us well, acquainted. It has much in common • with that recently put forward by a group of independent thinkers in The Neat Five Years. There is . nothing in it ,which could, not be subscribed to by persons of any party, Conservatives included, who believe that a large- scale frontal attack ought to be made without delay on the evil of trade - depression and unemployment. But any extra stimulus applied at this moment from any responsible quarter is all to ,the good.
