[TO THE EDITOR OF THE "SPECTATOR."] you permit me to
suggest, in reference to your able article last week on education, that the conscientious difficulties of all parties would be removed by the adoption of the educational system now in operation in Canada ? According to this system, each contributor to the school rate is at liberty to direct to what denominational school his contribution shall be paid, and the school board is bound to pay it accordingly, provided there be in the school district, or within reasonable distance from it, a school of that denomination which meets the requirements of the Education Act. All contributions not thus specially appropriated are to be applied to the maintenance of a secular school. Thus no single individual is required to contribute to a style of educa-
tion which offends his conscience, while all denominations,, whether secularists or so-called denominationalists, are stimu- lated to keep up, it may be even by supplementing the compulsory rate with private donations, schools which are in accordance with their several opinions.—I am, Sir, &g., A.
