"NINE TAILORS MAKE A MAN."
[To TEE EDITOR OF THE " BPECTATOR,"] SIR,—Your correspondent, Mr. Powell, is in error, when he states the original word to be " taler," and has misapprehended the meaning of the word. The word is " tailer," i.e., so many extra strokes of the bell at the end or tail " of the passing bell,
in which the number of strokes corresponded with the age of the deceased.
But the explanation is not a new discovery, having been re- peatedly alluded to during the present century.—I am, Sir, &c.,
