LABOUR BISHOP SIR, —In your December 5 issue Pharos wondered with
reference to Mervyn Stockwood whether this was the first time that the Crown has nominated a Labour bishop during a Tory regime. No, sir, it is not. Mr. Baldwin in 1928 advised the appointment of Dr. Temple, then Bishop of Manchester and well known for his Labour sympathies, to he Arch- bishop of York.—Yours faithfully.
