Le Moliere du Itre &Me : Bernard Shaw. By Augustin
Eamon. (Eugbne Figuibre, 7 Rue Corneille, Paris. 3fr. 50c. net.) —In Germany Mr. Bernard Shaw has been a popular dramatist for many years. Many of his works are now included in the repertories of the State theatres, and he is even generally reputed by the German playgoer to be, like Shakespeare and Ibsen, of Prussian nationality. In France, on the contrary, he has hitherto remained almost unknown. There are signs, however, that this mistake is soon to be corrected. One or two of his plays have recently been acted in Paris, and a complete French translation of his works is announced. Meanwhile we have M. Hamon's criticism, which, as may be gathered from its title, is intensely appreciative. — Selected Passages from the Works of Bernard Shaw. By Charlotte F. Shaw. (Constable and Co. 5s. net.)—The somewhat heterogeneous collection of opinions which make up Mr. Shaw's philosophy may be studied conveniently in this anthology. The quotations are arranged alphabetically according to the subjects dealt with, and include a number of unpublished observations.
