The Great Perhaps. By Rita. (Hutchinson. 7s. 6d.)- There is
no necessity to explain to lovers of cricket what is meant by the batsman"S " blind spot." This is, of course, so near his sight that the ball is practically invisible. The same is true in the world of fashion and of the minor arts. Great pictures' and great literature never become 'old-fashioned ; but the pictures in Punch and the novels from the libraries are fundamentally affected by the current mode. In • The Great Perhaps Rita unfortunately provides an example of a novel exactly in the blind spot of the modern reader's mind. The characters in it are almost unbelievably unnatural, and the plot is frankly impossible.
