Sir: The questions I am asked when inter- viewed about
my own work as an astrologer or my column at the Sunday Times more often than not reveal a complete lack of familiarity with the subject. This was the case with Petronella Wyatt's recent article on astrology. There are journalists who know the subject. But Miss Wyatt was no more equipped for the task than I would be to comment on Nigel Short's potential in a chess match.
Anyone in a profession as controversial as mine is accustomed to the odd brickbat. But I must take exception to Miss Wyatt's comments anticipating the unfortunate reaction likely when I 'meet my Maker'. However modest her knowledge of my own field, I suspect her theological credentials are even less impressive. Ordinarily, I would demand an apology. But since in this case, there is a Higher Authority involved, I shall wait for His judgment; whatever Miss Wyatt's misgivings on the subject, I really do think such matters are between Him and me.
