Another'excelleht publication 'on the sane' lines, from the press of
Messrs. Benn (3s. 6d.), shows the tide of public interest in smoke abatement, which, taken at the flood, will lead on to legislation. In the preface.. to Home Fires Without Smoke, Lord Shaw tells us that forty million tons of coal are burned in domestic fire-places in the year. At least half this is wasted, producing not heat but sky-befouling soot. This book should help to clear the air in more senses than one.
