Thirty-year giant

Sir: I have two small children, and whole- heartedly endorse Emily Smith's sentiments regarding children's radio (Letters, 13 November).

Thirty years ago the last ever Children's Hour was marked by David Davis's reading of Oscar Wilde's story 'The Selfish Giant'.

It was apposite then and would be equal- ly so today.
