Censured
Sir: I am appalled. Until I saw your issue of 7 July I thought the Spectator was a suitable paper which could be safely left, without censorship, lying in the withdraw- ing room. But now, sir, you too are allowing articles on sex ('The origin of sex', Matthew Parris) in your journal (and what is worse articles on this topic written by the godfather of my own grandson). Shame on you, sir. Is the Spectator no longer to be suitable reading matter for the
gamekeeper and the children; must we now censor each copy, scissors in hand, as we must the Hong Kong telephone direc- tory?
