Real Gammon?

From Captain Duncan Neil Dewar Sir: I was proud of a young relative's ability to pass so many 0 and A levels at school and then go on to collect university degrees with the ease of a magnet picking up iron filings.

I was also pleased during a period when he was unemployed (degrees are no open-sesame to a job) to pass on to him, at his request, my copies of The Spectaw tor.

But when he suggested that your television critic adopts the nom de plume of Gammon which, as a ham and a humbug, befits him well. I was not a little upset.

Agreed there are occasions as in In ' defence of Alf' (October 21) when I could not agree more but, Sir, is his name truly Clive Gammon?
