Leyton
John Harvey's short •piece on Leyton in this issue gives full praise, and rightly so, to Ronald Buxton, the new MP, and to a very efficient, and reinforced, constituency organisation. It does less than justice to himself. He was there from the first day to the last, and his wisdom and political skill played a big part in the triumph. And if 1 mention John Harvey in despatches, one should add the name of Cyril Norton. the Tory Central Office agent for Greater London. He has a real flair for battle.
Next week, no doubt, political warfare will burst out again. and it is to be hoped that the new Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs will explain his comment on the result : 'I cannot congratulate the Tories on some of their allies and co-belligerents at Leyton.' If Mr. Michael Stewart means anything (and it would be charitable to assume that he does), he means that Colin Jordan and his tiny gang of thugs were 'allies and co-belligerents' of the Tories. Neither Mr. Gordon Walker nor anyone else thought of that one.
