Sir: I am quite accustomed to the continuing bigotry towards those of us who live in the states identified as the 'Old South'. It is so old and trite that it is barely worth a reaction. I merely wonder why students from the University of Michigan should be running around insulting strangers. What possible academic value can this activity support? What was the initial intent of the teachers who sent out the students? If it was to prove that psychology professors and their students are vulgar and insulting bores, then the experiment was a roaring success. If the object was to gauge possible violent reactions, then may I make a suggestion? For the next assignment, have the students, accompanied by the professors, learn Arabic and go to Tehran University and toss their insults there.
