Confusion reigns ,in Afghanistan. . A Daily _Telegraph dispatch from Peshawar ,
speaks of a fourth would-be Amir, Ali Ahmad Jan, who is marching on Kabul from the north-east. This gentleman was formerly a hench- man of Amanullah, and it may be that he is only enlisting support for the ex-King. Bacha-i-Saqao, true to his policy of conciliating the Mullahs, has issued a new coinage bearing the dates of the lunar year, in accordance with ancient practice, but it will take more than this sort of wisdom to secure his position. As there is every prospect of savage tribal warfare in the spring, foreign residents and business men in Kabul will probably do well to leave the country. There is no hostility, to the British at present. In fact the present Amir has given his consent to the: establishment of a weekly air mail service between Kabul and Peshawar. No decision has been taken yet with regard to the withdrawal of foreign Legations,`, The more thoughtful Afghans are fetirful of the consequences of such a step, not least because it would leave the field open to Soviet Russian intrigue. * - *
