A very large meeting was held in Manchester Free trade

Hall on Thursday, to express sympathy with the Irish people and their claims to redress of grievances, and to protest against the recent prosecution. The Mayor presided ; and among the speakers was Professor Newman, brother of Professor Newman of Oxford. The resolutions proposed, and a memorial to the Queen, were adopted unanimously.
