The Government, in our view, Nuffila have done much better
to invite Labour to consultation belOre the Bin was drafted. It is notorious that within the trade unions there IS much dissatisfaction with the present despotic trade union regulations and with the cruelt ies of mass intimidation. It is felt, moreover, that I he law which is interpreted in different. ways by legal experts really needs exposition. Of course the Pail ia I nen tar La hour Party might have refused to co-operate with the Govern- ment. In that ease they would have proved once more that they have extremely little tactical sense. They woidd have enormously strengthened the position of the Government. Even as it is they are keeping a rod in piekle.for any future Labour Government, for surely everybody sees that no Government of the future will be in such a difficult and invidious position as a Labour Government when there is industrial trouble. The former members of the Labour Government now have a chance of getting some of their enemies in their own household disarmed, but they foolishly, miss the opport hillY of ha v ing done fort hem what they would secretly like to do, hut dare not do themselves.
