Journalism for Women. By E. A. Bennett. (John Lane.)— Here
are words of wisdom indeed. Mr. Bennett edits a ladies' newspaper, knows what he is talking about, and has the courage to speak his mind with a quite admirable frankness. His chief complaint is that women do not take journalism seriously. Mr. Bennett also points out various defects and shortcomings in the necessary accomplishments, spelling, for instance, and style. But he does not content himself with censure. His book is intended to be a "practical guide," and fulfils its purpose admir- ably. His suggestions as to the different characteristics of various magazines and newspapers should be most useful. Indeed, his book is distinctly the best that we have seen on the subject, the best and the briefest.
