EPISCOPALIAN PREACHING IN EXETER HALL.
Lord Doarosassois asked the Bishop of London, whether certain evening discourses delivered in Exeter Hall by right reverend prelates and other dignitaries of the Church were strictly in conformity with the rules and discipline of the Church. The first of these discourses began on Sunday last. Some persons thought it was calculated to introduce a sort of Spurgeonism into the Church of England.
The Bishop of LONDON said, that the meetings were in strict accordance with a statute entitled "An act for the better securing the liberty of religious worship," rendering meetings for religious worship in unconsecrated buildings legal. They are, indeed, not only legal but highly expedient. Lord KINNAIRD confirmed this statement; and the Archbishop of CANTERBURY said that Lord Dungannon's question had been fully answered. He could not imagine that any greater reproach could be cast on the Church than to suppose that it is incapable of accommodating itaelf to the changing necessities of the age.
