Germains has given us a heroic portrait of Lord Kitchener, and has defended him against the polemics, and sometimes the misstatements of his opponents. The most sensational thing is a letter to the author from General von Ludendorff, in which he suggests, without evidence or argument, that the responsibility for the loss of the ' Hampshire ' rests with the Russian revolutionaries.
