took his horse out on a recent exercise, which was held in country unsuitable for the vehicle with which the Army pro- vides him. " There may," he told me afterwards, " have been episodes in the history of the Regiment when the word went round ' Keep a bullet for the woman.' Now, I fear, it's ' Keep a thunder-flash for the Colonel's horse.' "
