It appears by the latest accounts received from the United
States, that the pressure on the money-market there is still severe. The treasure of the Government continued to increase; and measures were in progress to effect its distribution, on the 1st of next month, among the different States in proportion to the number of mem- bers each State elects to Congress.
The result of the Presidential contest was not ascertained when the last packet sailed from New York. It was calculated, that of the Presidential electors, those for Mr. VAN Butte.N,vicho adopts General JACKSON'S banking policy, would amount to 113 certainly and 40 probably ; for Mr. HARRISON, 124 certainly and 14 pro- bably; the whole number being 291. The chances are thus in favour of VAN BUREN.
