On Thursday, January 25th, a deputation urged the Home Secretary
to introduce legislation to make it possible for parents to legitimatize, by . subsequent marriage, a child born out of wedlock. We are sorry to see that Mr. Bridgeman returned what must be considered on the whole an "evasive answer." .It, is really . high time that this cruel. anachronism of our. legal system, which is now peculiar to this country, should be swept away. The sins of the fathers, are often visited on. the children by an inexorable fate, and we can only: pity, but when it is done by a legal ineptitude it. is for us to act.
