Sir: If Mr Arthur who wrote (Letters. October 13) calling
for Marxism to be "knocked right out of the mainstream of British politics "is flummoxed bY the reply of Mr Stern (October 20) 1 beg him not to despair. Our window cleaner is also voting Labour at the next election; he gives his reason "That the country would not be in this oil mess if Mr Heath had not taken us into the Common Market." There is of course about as much rationale in this as with Mr Stern who compares Mr Heath who nationalises rarely and reluctantly with Mr Wilson whose party would na' tionalise ideologically, wantonly and with relish.
Vote Labour if you must, Mr Stern, but when you advance such reasons, including inflation which is world wide and therefore includes Labour' governed countries such as Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Australia. well may Colin Coote ask in an article in last week's Telegraph • But Can We Trust the People?'
