Chile : its Land and People. By F. J. G.
Maitland. (F. Griffiths. 10s. 6d. net.)—After giving a brief historical introduction, Mr. Maitland describes the natural features, the population and industries of Chile. His work is based partly on his own experience and partly on the books of other travellers. He thinks that the opening of the Panama Canal will have a very beneficial effect on the prosperity of Chile— where the climate is as suitable for cotton-spinning as that of Lancashire—and even looks forward to " the transformation of Concepcion and Valdivia into Boltons and Bradfords."
