Last week we published a letter from a correspondent at
Auckland describing the many ways in which Lord Jellicoe had earned the admiration and friendship of New Zealanders. It is evident that Lord Jellicoe is a very good " mixer," and can carry out his duties as a Governor in precisely the spirit which is required and liked. To appoint Governors who will be acceptable to the Dominions is just as important as to be wise in the regu- lation of tariffs or in the conduct of Imperial defence. We hope it may be possible to persuade Lord Jellicoe to go to a Dominion again. Why should he not go to Canada when Lord Byng's term is ended ? Lord Byng has been an exceptional success ; Lord Jellicoe would be just the man to succeed him.
