No. 2030: Funny ha-ha

Twenty years ago some wag suggested a competition in which entrants are simply invited to write 'something that will make people laugh'. Here we go then: a maxi- mum of 150 words, please, including and ending with this sentence from a modern novel: 'She knows, knows, while knocks sound at the door, that the worst thing that has ever happened to any woman in the world has happened to her.'
