The seat for Great Grimsby, vacant by the decease of
Mr. Chapman, has been carried by Mr. Watkin, son of Sir E. Watkin, the Railway Chairman. Mr. Watkin, though a Liberal, defeated Mr. Seddon, the Conservative candidate, by 1,699 to 1,315, whereas Mr. Chapman, who was a Conservative, at the last election polled 1,534 votes. The increased Liberalism of the borough is attributed to railway influence, but at least it proves that in Great Grimsby the Government has evoked no enthusiasm for its policy.
