POETRY.

LE BERCEAU.

Written in behalf of the Fund now being raised in England for French children of the war, under the patronage of Queen Alexandra.) TN the soul's Carden-City,

Arched-over with love, There, arc flowers of sweet pity Dew-fed from above 1 O kind eyes of England, Look down on these little ones, Daughters and sons

Of a nation so dear to you—

Orphans of France By war's bitter mischance

More than ever drawn near to you—

Born of a breed That has brightened earth's story, Whose need is your need, And whose glory your glory !

By sorrow so crossed Can yo leave them to perish tnholpen ? Nay, rather As mother, as father, To cheer and to cherish And heal of heart-fretting, A brief while forgetting The homes they have lost, 0 kind arms of England, Bend down from above 1 .

Bid them stay here, and play here, And rest them. and gather The flowers of sweet pity That ever grow gay hero, In the scurs GerdenCity, Arched-over with love
