I commented the other day on the 225 years of

existence Messrs. Longmans, the publishers, have to their credit. Someone now sends me a letter from a Birmingham firm, Messrs. Ottway and Company, Limited, bearing a note at the top, "Established 1640." I hope it came to no harm in the Civil War. Jaws.
