Early on the morning of Friday, April 27th, Ramsgate was
heavily shelled by German destroyers. The fire was immediately returned and the enemy driven off, after firing a large number of rounds in little over five minutes. Though the radius covored by the shells extended over. five miles, the casualties were fortunately few ; a man and a woman were killed, two women and one man died of shock, and one.man and two women were injured. In all twenty- one houses were damaged, but most of the shells fell in the open country.
