Media Monitoring Unit

Sir: Lady Longford's enquiry as to the `political stance' of the Media Monitoring Unit (Letters, 29 November) strikes me as a trifle disingenuous. From the outset we have stated very openly that our views are to the right of centre. If only, as Paul Johnson has noted, 'media people' were as forthcoming about their own views.

Of course, if we had produced a three- page report giving a bald statement of our assessments it would be more relevant to query our bona fides. We believe, howev- er, that in our 314-page document we have established a case which is perfectly cap- able of standing on its own internal merits, regardless of our personal opinions.
