COSTS OF TRANSPORT.
Not the least interesting point made by Sir George Lawson Johnstone at the recent meeting of Bovril Limited was his .reference to the heavy charges of local transport as compared with oversea freights. Sir George, after mentioning, that the company's oversee sales for last year had shown a great expansion, mentioned the important part played by the cost of transport in the eventual price of the goods. He said that the figures of the cost of transporting a ton weight from Buenos Aires to London as compared with the local cost of transporting by rail showed that the highest and lowest costs of shipping from Buenos Aires to London since last July had been 19s. and 15s. respectively, whilst to move a ton of similar goods by rail from London to Brighton cost 44s. lid., or from Lincoln to London 70s.
