A correspondent describes in the Manchester Guardian of Monday the
new "skyscraper," of which plans have recently been filed in New York. It will be 750 feet high and will contain 55 storeys. The Monument in London is 202 feet: the highest tower of the Houses of Parliament is 331 feet; and the cross of St. Paul's is less than 365 feet. The correspon- dent says there is no grave danger, as is often supposed, from the corrosion of the steel girders, provided that the inspectors do not scamp their work. The great risk is fire.
