The result of the polling at Cheltenham was declared on
the evening of Friday, April 29th. The figures were :—Mr. J T. Agg-Gardner (U.) 4,043; Major L. Mathias (L.) 4,039, or a Unionist majority of four, and the result is a Unionist gain. At the General Election Mr. Mathias was returned by ninety- three votes, the total poll being 483 smaller. Since 1895 the seat has alternately been held by Unionists and Liberals, the largest majority having been 469.
