on this subject in the Spectator of October 30th, you quote from Mullion's "Dictionary of Statistics," that "in England and Wales, 11,784 clergymen collect £4,054,000." This is quite a mistake. The sum of £4,054,000 is the total amount of tithe rent-charge, according to the return of the Tithe Commission, and includes £766,233 belonging to lay impropriators, and £196,056 to schools and, colleges. The tithe which nominally goes to the clergy does not much exceed three millions.—I am, Sir, &c.,
