As for Mr. De Valera's manifesto to the Irish people,
we need not do more than quote the opening sentences, which give a sufficient clue to its nature :—
" To the people of Ireland. Fellow-citizens, you are in danger. Influences more deadly to a nation faced by an enemy than a plague in the ranks of its army are at work amongst you. The instinct in you for peace and repose,as natural after the period of strain you have passed through as the craving for food in the famished, is being played upon. If you give way you are undone. All you have gained will be lost and all the sacrifices you have made will be vain."
