Summonses have been issued by the Lord Mayor against a

number of gentlemen, who have been in the habit of angling in the Thames on some poor fishermen, who were punished for using illegal

netsilli complained that gentlemen broke the law by fishing on Sundays pith impunity; and the Lord Mayor said he would execute the law against the rich as well as the poor. On F.hursday, several anglers ap- peared, but on promising not to repeat their offences, were let off with- out a penalty.

On Monday night, the Police made a seizure of twelve or fourteen

performers in a penny theatre in Parker Street, Druryca Lane. The n fortunate mimes, as well as some oft

their theatril-loving friends, were taken to Bow Street Station-house, and locked up for the night. The

nest day, some were fined 20s., and others prisoned for foioleen days.

At the Town-hall, Southwark, on WedueAay, the common infriner,

Stowell stated, that an Act had be en paused inflicting a penalty of 10/. upon any informer who compromised a case. Ile looked upon that Act as a most bungling affair ; and when an opportunity occurred he should compromise any case, as he felt confident that under the Act he could sever be convicted. The Samson, a Gravesend steamer, caught fire on Sunday afternoon of that place ; and it was found necessary to scuttle her. The lire originated in the engine-room, but in what manner is not known. There were no passengers on board at the time.
