Waugh-sick

Sir: Some of us here are getting a bit sick of Auheron Waugh. We all know that he will never forgive the Times for sacking him, but why the sarcastic assault on Michael Cudlipp a couple of weeks ago?

Michael Cudlipp is the most likeable of men, the last person in Fleet Street to talk pretentiously about 'professionals' and 'power struggles.' He recognises that we journalists are simply people with a job to do, providing news.

As senior deputy editor (Mr Sloppy Waugh, not news editor), Michael Cudlipp is well liked and respected, in spite of his youth and rapid rise, by all but a few malcontents.
