Law affiliated to the German University, but managed by Italian

Professors. The German students saw, however, in this con- cession a threat to German ascendency in the Tyrol, attacked the Italian students, and produced a kind of free fight with revolvers. The local Tyrolese Government applied for mili- tary assistance, and an Italian regiment (Austrian) restored order; but the German excitement is very great. Fortunately, the Italian Government, which knows quite well that it can- not have the Tyrol, was moat moderate in its advice and remonstrances; and the Imperial authorities, though neces- sarily pro-German, do not like Pan-German demonstrations in which the students hurrah for Germany and sing the "Wacbt am Rhein."
