of our best mcn by the war we must endure through no fault of our own ; but we lose a greater number every year directly or indirectly through liquor, and this we can prevent, as our Colonies and other countries arc doing. It is especially important to make op for the wastage by war, which will be felt for some time, by stopping the perpetual wastage from alcohol. Are Britons slaves to the liquor trade ? Does Britannia rule the waves only ? We appreciate here the stand the Spectator has taken
