Pope's Translation of Homer's Iliad. Books I., VI., XXII., XXIV.

Edited, with an Introduction and Notes, by William Tappan. (Ginn and Co., Boston, U.S.A.)—Mr. Tappan has, as he says in his preface, endeavoured "to avoid the fault of over editing." With this object he has confined himself to such notes as are needed to explain the text. The introduction is well written, especially the account of the surroundings amid wh:ch Pope produced his famous poem. The book, which is intended for the use of schools, may be safely recommended for that purpose.
