[" THE GOLDEN CALF " AT THE GLOBE THEATRE]

A SATURNINE and satyrlike Jew (Reuben Manassa) who• enmeshes Miss Margaret Bannerman in his toils, is admirably portrayed by Mr. Raymond Massey at the Globe. He plays the part with just the right mixture of vigour and restraint and is the central figure throughout, which is as it "hould be, for the other characters have little to do and the plot is conventional. However, Miss Bannerman gets the optimum effect from her very charming dresses from Paris. She favours velvet and wore a green and white spotted waistcoat in the second act which fascinated me more than the dialogue. The Golden Calf is an evening's mild amusement, neither less nor more.
