[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] SIR, —I am glad

to see Sir John Murray's letter in the Spectator. It always surprises me that writers, not otherwise thoughtless, should continue to harp on Byron's lameness. Yet :—

1. He played in the Eton and Harrow cricket-match.

2. He was an accomplished boxer.

3. He swam the Hellespont.

What more can they ask of any man ?--I am, Sir, &c., D. R. FOTHERINGHAM, Hon. Secretary, The Byron Society. Charing Vicarage, Ashford, Kent.
