The Stocking

IF I'd a ladder

Would scale its walls, I'd hang my stocking From high St. Paul's, And the great Lord Mayor Of London Town Would come in his scarlet Ermined gown, Would come from the Pool where His great fleet lies, And fill my stocking With merchandize.

There'd be China oranges, Red and gold, Russian furry-rugs Against the cold, Little Swiss chalets, A fine French fan, Rubies strung in Ispahan, Bears from Poland, Combs from Spain, A beautiful English railway train, Japanese kites and Persian shawls, All on the top of Old St. Paul's !
