THE NEW GIRL OF PENY-Y-GAINTT. By Dorothea Moore. (Nisbet. 4s.

net.) "A new girl" is determined to get into a lower class than the one in which she is " placed " on coming to school. The efforts of a good and clever child to seem stupid and naughty and the refusal of the authorities to be at all shocked are amusingly and naturally described. The story is far more true to modern school life than are the crime and punish- ment type of tale of which every reviewer and most readers are surely becoming sick.
