It seems probable that we have another little war upon

our hands. The Governor of Natal has telegraphed to the Colonial Office that Dinizulu, the heir of the relics of Cetewayo's power, on June 23rd attacked Usibepu, a chief under our protection, and crashed him. Usibepu fled to a British police-station, but that also was attacked, and the police forced to evacuate the post, carryiKg Usibepu with them. It is therefore indis- pensable to chastise Dinizulu, who may or may not have an understanding with the Boers ; and Major-General Smyth has started for Zululand to ascertain the force that will be neces- sary to restore order. It is, of course, impossible, as we have assumed the protectorate of Zululand, to tolerate private war, or such an open defiance as is involved in the attack on the police-station.
