Mr. Maxton could hardly contain his impatience to demolish this

swollen and nebulous policy. " It is not a programme," he cried, " It is only a thesis." He declared that the Labour movement would not be permitted to bring in Socialism slowly. " Nationalization of all the essential industries " must be. undertaken by the next Labour Governm ent. " If you would stop getting Com- munists by the throat and start getting capitalists you would get your majority." The split in the Party has become wider and deeper.
