The Lord-Wardenahip of the Cinque Ports, which, though profitless, is

considered a great honour, has been given to the Marquis of Dufferin and Ava. Besides his previous services as Commissioner in Syria, in Egypt, and as Viceroy of India, he has recently carried through negotiations on the delimitation of Italian Africa which, owing to the views of the military party in Italy, were both delicate and difficult. Lord Dufferin, it is understood, will not quit the Embassy in Rome, but will occupy Weimer Castle whenever he is on leave.
