An American paper has committed itself to the prediction, or

the surmise, that Professor Laski will be Lord Halifax's successor as Ambassador in Washington. The suggestion appears to exaggerate a little the Prime Minister's gratification at being told by Mr. Laski what his position was to be at the Potsdam Conference, and Mr. Bevin's ambition to be pilloried as prime author of a purely political appointment.
