A remarkable change, apparently, occurred in the sanitary condition of

the Metropolis last week. The number who died was registered at 1497 against 1069 in the previous week—an excess of 428. The corrected average gives 1453; so there would appear an excess of 44 deaths even above that. The explanation of these figures is, that a very large number of deaths by violence and accident, which occurred during the month, were not registered until last week.
